چکیده

The interatrial communication occlusion procedure must be continually monitored by transesophageal or intracardiac echocardiogram, since invaluable detailed information is provided, such as: stretched diameter measure – crucial for the choice on prosthesis size to be used; left atrium disk location guidance – thus avoiding dislocation through the defect; device positioning after all components have been opened; and tracking of possible periprosthetic residual flow (Figure 1).

Coronary anomaly preventing transcatheter closure of an atrial septal defect.

A 4-year-old asymptomatic girl presented for elective transcatheter closure of her ostium secundum atrial septal defect (ASD). Her examination revealed a fixed split second heart sound with a 2/6 systolic ejection murmur at the left upper sternal border and a right ventricular lift. Transthoracic echocardiogram demonstrated a 15-mm secundum ASD with a mildly dilated right ventricle. The left co...

Percutaneous closure of multiple secundum atrial septal defects using 3 amplatzer atrial septal occluder devices: evaluation by live transthoracic 3-dimensional echocardiography.

A previously healthy 12-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital with acute pneumonitis. On admission, a heart murmur was detected. The transthoracic echocardiogram showed multiple secundum atrial septal defects with left-toright shunt and signs of right ventricular volume overload. He underwent right cardiac catheterization and transesophageal echocardiogram (transesophageal echocardiography)...

Very Late Dislocation of an AMPLATZER Septal Occluder Device Suspected Thanks to a Recent Onset of Right-Axis Deviation.

D ata on late complications after percutaneous closure of atrial septal defects (ASDs) are still sparse. This is the first report of a very late dislocation of an AMPLATZER septal occluder (ASO) device (St. Jude Medical, St. Paul, Minnesota) 14 years after placement. A 74-year-old Caucasian woman was admitted to our department for a syncopal event preceded by palpitations. Her medical history i...

Successful Percutaneous Retrieval of Embolized Septal Occluder Device from Aortic Arch and Placement of a Newer Septal Occluder Device in Combined Procedure

Embolization of the Amplatzer Septal Occluder (ASO) device (St. Jude Medical, Minnesota) after percutaneous closure of atrial septal defect (ASD) is a rare and potentially catastrophic complication. Percutaneous retrieval of the embolized device is gaining ground as an acceptable method, although these patients are usually subsequently referred for open surgical closure of the ASD. We present a...

Right ventricular infarction complicated by right to left shunting through an atrial septal defect: successful treatment with an Amplatzer septal occluder.

A 68 year old woman presented with right ventricular myocardial infarction complicated by refractory hypoxaemia. She was found to have a significant right to left shunt at the atrial level through a previously undiagnosed ostium secundum atrial septal defect. Percutaneous closure of the atrial septal defect with an Amplatzer septal occluder resulted in prompt improvement in her oxygenation and ...
